Recession adds pressure for college

It's a once-in-a-generation distinction that local high school students would rather do without.

As college-hopeful high school students take their SAT and ACT college exams in the coming months, they have the added pressure of doing so during the worst economy since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

For some, the difference of a few points on an entrance exam can fulfill or dash hopes of thousands of dollars in scholarship money at a time when families are struggling to afford college.
