Grant funds largely go to education

Education gets the lion's share of big-foundation grant dollars in New London County, according to a report released Wednesday by the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy.

Nearly $2.9 million of the $5.6 million donated in the region by the state's top 100 grantmakers went to education-related causes, the report said, using numbers from 2005. Arts and culture came in a distant second, with nearly $1.1 million in grants, while human services received only about $700,000
