Editorial: U.S. News college rankings problematic

It's called "gaming the system," and no one should fault University of Georgia President Michael Adams for doing just that - in a very small way, certainly - in connection with U.S. News & World Report magazine's annual ranking of private and public colleges and universities in this country.

As reported Thursday in this newspaper, Adams participated in something called a "peer assessment review" that constitutes a significant portion of the formula used by the magazine to arrive at its rankings.....
