New communications director for education department

Jake Weigler, who served as a communications officer for Gov. Ted Kulongoski and managed the failed U.S. Senate campaign of Steve Novick, is the Oregon Department of Education's new chief of day-to-day communications with the public and media.

That role had been filled by agency lobbyist Morgan Allen and other pinch-hitters for eight months after Gene Evans, who served as the agency's communications director for more than seven years, left for the Department of Human Resources.
