Before No Child Left Behind required school districts to collect data on student achievement, Tennessee had its own test score warehouse.
Known as the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System, the program shows how much students, schools and districts are improving over time. The data can also be used to predict if a student will pass algebra or if a fifth-grader is likely to drop out of high school.
