Some college students are choosing experience over a paycheck this summer

Some college students will return to classes this fall with empty savings accounts but plumper resumes after working all summer.

They exchanged paychecks for experience-building by taking unpaid internships rather than full-time jobs flipping burgers or landscaping yards.

"You get past the unpaid part pretty quickly," said Nick Sprosty, 21, who's working a 20-hour-a-week economics internship at the Columbus Chamber this summer. "It'll help me next year when I'm looking for a job."
