California State University proposes 20 percent fee hike

In the middle of a recession, one of the nation's most affordable universities is considering hiking its fees by 20 percent.

California State University Chancellor Charles Reed outlined the proposal Thursday, saying the system has few options but to raise fees and turn away 40,000 students over two years. The state, grappling with its own budget problems, has reduced CSU funding by $584 million.
