One of the more frustrating aspects of the legislative process in Harrisburg is the way sensible notions encounter resistance while the blatantly foolish often gets the fast track.

Case in point: The proposal to legalize and tax the video gambling machines that are ubiquitous in Pennsylvania watering holes.

Besieged by opponents from the start, the video gambling proposal took two tries on subsequent days this week just to squeak through the House Gaming Oversight Committee. It finally passed....
