Funding for higher education has become a pivotal component in a bid by the Pennsylvania General Assembly to approve a 2009-10 budget.
Last Friday, the state House of Representatives approved a version that separated direct funding for the state-run universities, community colleges and higher educational services.
That move would force legislators to fund the system with money from casino table games, video poker or tobacco sales, according to state Rep. Rick Taylor, D-151st District.
