Department of Education ends area GED Exit Option program

A handful of Alachua County graduates made it through high school thanks to a program called the GED Exit Option.

The program allowed credit-deficient students to earn diplomas if they passed state FCAT exams - or college entrance tests - and passed their GED testing.

That option abruptly ended Friday.
