Officials Set New Education Goals

A series of education goals including a more rigorous curriculum to prepare students for college and jobs has been crafted by Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman and education leaders.

The eight goals, discussed on Monday during a news conference, include requiring three years each of math, science and social studies by the 2014-2015 school year.


Officials also said they want to eliminate the academic-achievement gap that now exists between whites and minority groups and increase the state's high....
