Health and education officials get schools ready to combat Swine Flu

Last week local, state and federal health and education officials were full steam ahead in formulating plans to combat a foe that may be formidable in the fall or virtually nonexistent.

The Novel H1N1 influenza virus, at first called “swine flu” because the virus’ genes are similar to influenza viruses that normally occur in North American pigs, has caused concern not because it is deadlier than seasonal flu viruses but because it has spread worldwide since last spring.
