Parents of college students aren't the only ones grappling with education costs that seem to go in one direction -- up.

Check out what it costs to send your third-grader to school this fall.

How about $470?

That's the average cost this school year to outfit an elementary school student at a public school with a backpack, a calculator, markers, notebooks and other supplies, according to the Backpack Index compiled by Huntington National Bank in Columbus, Ohio.
