Six S.C. colleges get nuke education grants

Aiming to boost nuclear education, a federal agency has awarded about $1 million in grants to six S.C. colleges.

“These grants help develop a work force capable of the design, construction, operation and regulation of nuclear facilities, and the safe handling of nuclear materials,” said Gregory Jaczko, chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Nuclear engineers and technicians will be in high demand as a handful of power companies, including South Carolina Electric & Gas and Santee Cooper,....
