Newcomer to U.S. makes stand for education

A 17-year-old refugee with an improbable name and an indomitable spirit took a stand for education before school started this year, helping six other refugees gain admission to O'Connor High School.

The exchange Buddha Nepal had with a guidance counselor the week before school started brought him to tears as he recounted it last week at University United Methodist Church on the Northwest Side.

Nepal, who looks more 15 than 17, wears jeans, T-shirts and sneakers and is now a senior at Marshall....
