Lawmakers to study education measure

State lawmakers are planning to study how the passage of a proposed constitutional amendment dealing with education spending might affect the rest of the state budget.

The Oklahoma Education Association and other school support groups are pushing for passage of the Helping Oklahoma Public Education, or HOPE, initiative petition. It requires that the state meet the regional average of per student funding and would force an extra $850 million be spent on public schools over a 3-year period.
