Help on the way for veterans waiting for education benefits

Veterans still waiting for GI Bill education-benefit checks -- delayed by a backlog of paperwork -- can sign up today for emergency payments of up to $3,000.

Veterans can apply for and pick up their checks in person at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs regional office in St. Petersburg, or they can go online at va.gov to get a check in the mail within about a week, VA officials say.
