Mobile tries to match education with employment

A recurring theme of this year’s Inter-City trip to Mobile, Ala., was the need to think of quality public education as more than just good public policy.
“Improving public education is our No. 1 (economic) development strategy,” said Carolyn Akers, executive director of the Mobile Area Education Foundation. “We cannot import enough people in these boats that you see coming up the river to fill all the jobs we need in Mobile.”
