Soaring pay for coaches throws academics for a loss

When the University of Florida and the University of South Carolina football teams play each other on Saturday, the sidelines will be populated with the six million dollar men. That's how much head coaches Urban Meyer of Florida ($4 million) and Steve Spurrier ($2 million) of South Carolina will earn between them this year, according to an analysis of athletic spending that ran this week in USA TODAY.
