For 19-year-old Turice Peterson, taking tough classes her last two years at Cottage Grove High School was more than an academic exercise.

It was a financial imperative.

With no help with college tuition from her family (she moved out at 15 to live with an older sibling), the 2009 graduate took full advantage of the school’s College Now and Advanced Placement courses, both of which award both high school and college credits.
