After GM shutdown, tech college enrollment soars

JANESVILLE, Wis. - Janesville's unemployment is soaring with the shutdown of SUV production at its General Motors plant, and that's also created an enrollment boom at the state's Blackhawk Technical College as laid off workers try for a new start.

The shutdown had a ripple effect among companies in the area that supplied parts to the plant.

Workers whose jobs were lost say the federal Trade Readjustment Allowance program should provide enough support to get through two years of technical college.....
