NCAA tournament passes to greatness

With nine seconds left in the 1987 NCAA tournament final, Indiana forward Daryl Thomas got the ball on the right baseline 10 feet from the basket.

The Hoosiers trailed Syracuse 73-72, and Thomas, a senior and team leader, had the ball in his hands and a game-winning shot on his mind.

He also had Orange center Derrick Coleman in his way. Thomas tried a ball fake to get Coleman, 4 inches taller, into the air.
