IA Senate approves higher education package

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Senate on Monday slashed more than 8.3 percent from this year's higher education budget ultimately approving a $909.8 million spending package.

Sen. Brian Schoenjahn, D-Arlington, a main supporter of the package, said backers pushed for the deep cuts in state spending because a federal stimulus package includes a substantial amount of money for higher education programs.
