Faced with a choice of allowing some of their colleagues to be laid off or defer the raises they were due by contract, Brookline teachers recently voted to defer raises.

While this was quite an admirable decision, for which I commend Brookline teachers, the amount of coverage it received – including multiple stories and a recent editorial – make it clear that the staff of The Telegraph believes this is a model for other city and town employees when faced with budget constraints.
