Gazette Opinion: Use stimulus wisely to sustain education

Education is a high priority in the new federal stimulus law, which requires states to spend 81.8 percent (about $121 million in Montana) of the "stabilization" funding they'll be getting on kindergarten through college education.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan told the Washington Post last week that the goal of stimulus for schools is saving teaching jobs and driving a strong reform agenda.

"Simply investing in the status quo isn't going to get us where we need to go," Duncan sai
