Access of the Poor to Quality Higher Education Is Imperiled; Devastated Schools

"Yes, Defend the Schools, but Credibly" (editorial, Nov. 19) suggests that the New York City Schools Chancellor, Joseph A. Fernandez, "reach consensus on a plan that will not devastate classroom services." But classroom services in New York City were devastated quite some time ago and have yet to recover.

If you have a child in a public school, you get letters from the teacher in April asking for parents to send boxes of tissues to school because the supply money is all gone. Imagine 25 6-year-old....
