Editorial: Obama's new higher-education chief good for community colleges

PRESIDENT BARACK Obama's selection of Foothill-De Anza Community College District Chancellor Martha Kanter as undersecretary of education bodes well for community colleges in California and throughout the nation.

She is the first community college leader to be named as a president's higher-education chief. It is a welcome appointment that should give community colleges the recognition and support they deserve, but all too often do not receive.
