The Maryland State Board of Education recently issued an opinion stating that "the impact of illegal immigrant students on the school system's budget (whether large or small) is not a valid public purpose under the ruling and reasoning of Pyler [sic] v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 (1982), which held that the U.S. Constitution prohibits the State or local government from denying immigrant children the benefit of a public education."
