OPINION: Education should be a priority in state budget

On March 30, the Washington State Senate announced its intentions to cut $3.8 billion from the state budget. Of that money, $1.3 billion was from education; $513 million would be cut from higher education.
The majority of the money would be taken from that gained by Washington State Initiative I-728, which was passed in 2000 to reduce class sizes and trim levy equalization money for property-poor districts.
Let me ask you this: why is it that every time budget cutbacks need to be made, education....
