  • High school is a lot of fun if only someone eradicated the test systems! Ha…but one has to give a test. A test is something that analyzes what you have learnt from the class of a particular subject. It tests one’s skill and the level of knowledge. One had better score well else they would be failed.

Failure is a huge thing for students, be it school, high school or even at university level. No one wants to fail. Therefore, students are constantly running from pillar to post, doing their homework and then running for extra tuitions. However, tests in the recent past had become easier.

The education system as a whole, in America, thought that if the tests were made easier, it would be easier for students to pass. They had a good intention behind this move. The system wanted more and more students to pass. They wanted a little less stress for the kids and of course passing the grade is a huge motivation.

But this is not happening anymore, especially not in New York. The education officials in the city stated that exams had indeed become easier to pass and therefore, they would rework the test and the scoring system for this spring. Now this would mean a lot more students would be failing. Students who thought they would just make it will now fail because the correction system is going to get tougher too. there is going to be no hanky-panky where tests are concerned. The students will have to pull their socks and really work hard the way it should be done.

The problem with easy tests was the fact that only the number of students passing increased and there was no growth seen in any other area. The easy test did not ensure that the students are grasping enough knowledge and taking something back with them. But instead it gave the students an excuse of not studying hard enough. They just took the whole thing lightly. And unfortunately the teachers went along with this. But just as the schools and the students were getting comfortable, the NY Education department decided to change things around.

What had been started for a good cause is not working anymore. One of the spokesperson from the education department stated that it was only in New York that the tests had become so easy. He further added that they weren’t proficient anymore and that compared to other states, New York was the easiest.

A study conducted by the Harvard University stated that one in eight students who passed these tests could make it to graduation. Now this is an appalling number and therefore, it is good that the state is working towards changing it.

Diluted education never helped anyone. Sure it gave some classroom knowledge but nothing beyond that. It is great to see that the state officials are going to be proactive about it else we would be raising zombies in our coming generations.
