  • Colleges in Texas are facing a situation that they rather not face ever again. The quality of teachers is decreasing at a rapid pace. This is mainly because the profession itself is facing a major financial crisis. According to a number of teachers from the state, the pay package is not upto the mark.

Teaching is a very important profession, especially in a country where the economy is highly dependent on its higher education system. The numbers of enrollments into colleges are already dropping at a pace that cannot be termed just as ‘steady’.

The reason is that most of the students and families feel that higher education is bizarrely expensive, which it is at the moment according to many educational experts as well. In a situation like this, the last thing America wants is the quality of teaching to come down.

If good teachers start to opt out of education institutes, the nation is going to get into a deeper mess, which will take a while to get cleaned up. Public colleges have already come under the scanner as far as quality of teaching is concerned. There are not enough funds coming in and hence there is a tight budget. In such a scenario, the colleges are not able to give away attractive pay packages to teachers and staff.

According to many higher education administrators, this is nothing but a vicious circle that does not seem to have an end. The rootcause is the amount of funds, or rather lack of it coming from the government. It is high time the government looks into the funds and somehow manages a way to increase it. The government too has been doing whatever it can. However, the situation seems to have gone out of control.

As far as the teachers are concerned, they are bound to look for other professions if they are not paid as to what they deserved. It is a natural human reaction. Today, there are teachers who are indulging themselves in part-time earning activities across the country and this certainly is not a fact that can make any country proud.

This just shows that there is something terribly wrong in the system. There are universities and colleges that are too worried about building stadiums of international standards that for allocating a budget that will ensure that top quality teachers are recruited, even if it means that the stadium will not be as great as expected.

A college should focus on providing the best education to its students. Everything else is secondary, according to a number of experts. If a college is not able to afford good quality teachers, it has no rights to spend on lavish gymnasiums and huge parking lots and amazing landscapes. At the moment, things don’t look too bright in Texas.

However, many experts, most of them being highly optimistic feel that the higher education system in the country has reached its lowest of lows. Hence, one can expect only better things from here on.
