  • Job Summary
    Provides technical assistance and works closely with other Software Engineering staff to develop and apply practical skills. Learns tools to assist software engineering with campus IT applications and ETL processes. Assists technical staff in fulfilling requests or resolving incidents related to custom applications and ETL processes. Please note this position is an apprenticeship within Kennesaw State University Information Technology Services department; it does not guarantee permanent employment with the University

    Responsibilities
    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: -
    1. Collaborates with software engineering and UITS staff to resolve technical incidents or fulfill service requests
    2. Assists with developing applications and integrations according to specifications using appropriate programming languages, tools, development methodologies, and adhering to best practices, while communicating progress, and delivering within scheduled timelines
    3. Uses appropriate algorithms, logic, and data structures to solve problems and promote code reusability
    4. Writes well organized, documented, and readable code
    5. Uses appropriate revision control practices

    Required Qualifications
    Educational Requirements
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in computer science or a related field.

    Required Experience
    No experience required; on-the-job training provided.

    Familiarity with the following technologies and concepts: SQL, JavaScript, JavaScript-based web frameworks (e.g., Vue, React), Python

    Able to develop software that meets technical specifications to satisfy business requirements
    Able to write code that utilizes basic programming algorithms and data structures
    Able to appropriately communicate challenges and issues
    Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

    KNOWLEDGE
    KEY LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
    Will acquire experience developing user interfaces using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript
    Will gain proficiency in a programming language, such as Python, SQL, and JavaScript
    Will acquire familiarity with data exchange and object notation formats, such as JSON and XML
    Will learn software design patterns, such as model-view-controller
    Will learn how to troubleshoot software issues using debugging tools and diagnostic methods
    Will learn how to develop using web-oriented architectures, frameworks, and technologies such as Vue, React, Flask
    Will learn how to develop secure code by adhering to best practice prevention standards and implementing appropriate security frameworks (e.g., OAuth, OpenID)
    Will learn to develop with REST-based APIs, SOAP, and other Open APIs

    SKILLS
    Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
    Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., IDEs such as Visual Studio code, GIT repository management such as Bitbucket or Github, and Microsoft or Atlassian products for ticketing/documentation)
    Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
    Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
