Texas education board members take oath, get ready for pivotal year

All 15 State Board of Education members — including eight new members — were sworn into office Wednesday, beginning a term in which important issues such as selection of new science books and materials awaits them.

Senate Education Committee Chairman Dan Patrick, R-Houston, administered the oath of office and then encouraged the board to work with his committee in crafting education legislation in the 2013 session.
